SKIING
Sierra Nevada is the third highest mountain range in Europe. Its peaks include the highest summits on the Iberian Peninsula.
More than 20 of its peaks exceed 3,000 meters in altitude, with Mulhacén, at 3,482 meters, being the highest point on the Iberian Peninsula.
These mountains are home to the southernmost ski resort in Europe, boasting the most hours of sunshine. Its chairlifts reach within meters of the summit of Veleta Peak (3,398 meters), the third highest on the peninsula.
Located in the Penibetic System in southern Spain, in the municipality of Monachil, 31 kilometers from the city of Granada, Sierra Nevada offers excellent conditions for winter sports.
The ski resort is located in the western part of the Sierra Nevada National Park, which is also a Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve.
