Just 15 kilometers from Slow Hous sa mayma<\/i> lies the Alpujarra region of Granada. This high mountain region is located on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. It\u2019s impressive to see how the local population adapted to the conditions imposed by the geography, creating a unique landscape of villages clinging to the mountains, irrigation channels to capture every last drop of water from the snow-capped peaks, and an imposing staircase of agricultural terraces that transform the hillsides into veritable gardens. The area\u2019s defining characteristic is its vernacular architecture, a direct descendant of the Berber peoples who settled the region after the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in the 8th century.<\/p>
