WINDSURFING

El embalse de Rules (Rules Reservoir), 15 minutes from sa mayma beside Highway A-44 as it passes by Vélez de Benaudalla-Órgiva, is home to a windsurfing school. Courses for all ages and levels are offered, and equipment rentals are also available for more advanced windsurfers.

For beginners or those who have never been on a board, the school offers an option called ‘windsurf baptism’, a 50 euro, 3-hour instructor-guided introduction to sail lifting, balance and veer, the basic movements of this sport. The goal of these lessons is to have fun and learn how to move about on the water by clinging, tacking, jibing and returning to the starting point.

For adults, the school offers four different three-day courses for all levels, which are priced around 150 euros. Novice, intermediate, proficient and advanced courses are offered, with all necessary equipment provided onsite both to practice the sport and to ensure safety and security while sailing on the reservoir.

Additionally, the school recommends that students make reservations in advance as well as bring sunscreen, a change of clothes, a towel, water and a snack.
